NYUDL was established in 1997, in partnership with the Barkley Forum and the Open Society Institute (OSI), to institutionalize high school debate in New York City public schools, providing urban students with the critical academic and personal success skills they need to get better grades, go to college and create positive social change.

Prior to the creation of IMPACT's New York Urban Debate League only two high schools (Bronx Science and Stuyvesant) in New York City had policy debate teams. IMPACT has introduced policy debate into over 70 public schools in New York City. If you would like more infomation about IMPACT or the NYUDL please e-mail us your name, contact information and the programs you are interested in.

During the current academic year thanks to your support, IMPACT has
